2019 FGSA Executives
Chair
Nicole Tratnik
Nicole is pursuing her PhD in Forestry, studying bio-based, formaldehyde free wood adhesives made from starch. She has previously been part of the FGSA as athletic director and chair, and pretty much has the hang of it now. If you want something to happen, let her know and she'll do her best to get it done. While most of the time she's in her office, from time to time she'll be off camping, playing frisbee or hanging out at the GSU next door... |
Vice-Chair/Public Relations
Heba Jarrar
Heba Jarrar is in her first year of the MFC program. She is from Halifax, Nova Scotia and completed her BSc. in Environmental Science there at Dalhousie University. A fun and obscure fact about her is that she loves trees and she loves the ocean. Also, her favourite tree is the eastern white pine! |
Research-Stream and Undergraduate Student Representative
Niamh Wall
Niamh is a first-year Ph.D. student, supervised by Dr. Patrick James and Dr. Marie Josee Fortin, studying connectivity in Southern Ontario. She first joined the Faculty of Forestry as an MFC student in 2013. She is passionate about conservation which lead her to work with the charity CPAWS Wildlands League following her graduation. Niamh stayed in touch with her fellow MFCs, learning about all the places forestry took them. She is delighted to be back and hope she can share skills she gained working in the ENGO world. As a Research Rep, she hopes to help provide some of the same benefits she received to students here today. |
MFC and Alumni Representative
Colin Smith
Colin is a lover of the outdoors, but not the cold. In his spare time, he can be found hiking, or procrastinating, or sometimes both at the same time! After graduating with a Bsc in Geography from the University of Victoria, he worked as a land surveyor in Vancouver, and as a forest technician in regions across Ontario. Having previously served as an events planner for his undergraduate student union, he is excited to represent the MFC cohorts within the FGSA. |
Treasurer
Richard Ormord
Richard came to the MFC program after a long, windy road trying to decide what he wanted to do with his career. He did his undergrad at McMaster in Environmental Science and a Forest Tech diploma at Fleming College, after which he worked for a year and half out in BC in industrial forestry, in the GTA as an arborist, at the Petawawa Research Forest as a data wrangler, and then as his own independent operator in the Ottawa Valley doing silviculture work. His long term goal is to sustainably manage a tract of forest, either industrial or urban, and to inform policy making decisions for more sustainable practices in the future. His interest in the treasurer position with the FGSA is to build on his skill set organizing events and allocating resources so that an organization can run sustainably into the future. He also is a fan of giving back to communities and organizations that have helped him in the past, and he would like to be able to contribute to the FGSA and UofT since they've provided him with some tools for success as well as an amazing social atmosphere. |
Althletic Representative
Noah Wolfe
Noah loves playing sports as a way to stay active while making new friends and having a great time in the process. As the athletic rep he would be looking to get his fellow forestry students involved in some of UofT's intramural leagues to facilitate meeting new people in the faculty and to de-stress from school for a bit. His favourite sports are volleyball and softball, but he is down to play pretty much anything as long as enough people are interested! |
